Made from Kiri (Japanese Paulownia Wood), this cutting board is incredibly lightweight yet sturdy enough for daily use. Paulownia wood is quick-drying and has a unique softwood density that protects against knife chipping and dulling. It is also gentle on knives and helps them stay sharp for longer. To clean, just hand wash with soap and water and dry immediately after use. Rub regularly with mineral oil, especially the edges of the cutting board to avoid darkening and to last longer. The cutting board is handmade with natural wood, so the wood grain and colors may vary slightly. Handmade in Japan.

Japanese Paulownia

Japanese Paulownia, also known as “Kiri” in Japanese, is a genus of fast-growing deciduous trees known scientifically as Paulownia. This tree is native to East Asia and widely cultivated in other regions, especially in Japan.

Features Good Wood Properties

The wood of the Paulownia tree is lightweight yet strong, with a fine grain and a pale color. It’s highly valued in woodworking and furniture making, especially in Japan, for making traditional items like Koto (a stringed musical instrument) and Tansu (a type of storage chest).
